  1. Pour 500 ml strong black coffee into a jug, stir in 80 g golden caster sugar until dissolved, then add 100 ml coffee liqueur. Let cool completely.
  2. Once cold, pour the mixture into a freezable container and freeze for 1 hour.
  3. Remove from the freezer, mix with a fork to break up ice crystals forming at the edges, then return to the freezer for 20 minutes.
  4. Repeat the mixing process once or twice more until the granita forms clumps of ice.
  5. Serve in glasses or bowls as a dessert. For a richer version, top with a dollop of mascarpone and a grating of 50 g dark chocolate, if desired.
