Ingredients
- For ground beef:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 2 onions, roughly chopped
- Several cloves of garlic, finely chopped. (I use like 5 but I love garlic)
- 1 pound mushrooms
- A splash of cooking wine, to taste
- A tablespoon or more of tomato paste, to taste
- pickling salt to taste
- A tablespoon of butter
- For potatoes:
- 2.5 pounds of potatoes
- A tablespoon of butter
- Several cloves of garlic, finely chopped
Directions
- Chop onions & garlic, cut potatoes into quarters.
- Put onions & garlic & salt & 1 tbsp butter in a pan on low heat.
- Put potatoes & salt in a pot of water and bring to a boil and simmer for at least an hour. (several if possible).
- On another pan put mushrooms with some water on low heat, stir everything occasionally.
- Keep adding water to the potatoes but not the mushrooms, sweat onions.
- Once onions absorb all liquid, add a splash of wine & keep heat on low.
- Once the onions absorb all that, let them brown a little, to taste, but don’t let them burn. Add salt if needed, set pan aside.
- Your mushrooms should be almost done, and the water should be almost all boiled off.
- Once you have just a little water in the pan with the mushrooms, add everything to the onion pan.
- Stir to incorporate and then add your beef, and turn the heat to medium. Add more salt & wine & butter to taste. Add in tomato paste to taste.
- Cook beef til light brown, don’t overcook it. Do a final taste test and set it aside.
- Take out a potato and make sure it is completely mushy, pour out the water, add the butter & salt & garlic & milk to taste and mix thoroughly.
- In a container put ground beef in the bottom, and then spread your mashed potatoes on top of it. Serve.
